Description
English: New York, N.Y. (May 25, 2006) - A memorial at New York’s World Trade Center Ground Zero site displays artifacts from policemen, firemen and military mementos from around the world. Many items include hats, patches, unit coins and various other items honoring those who lost their lives September 11, 2001. Many Sailors and Marines participating in Fleet Week New York City 2006, will visit this site during a week of remembrances and events May 24 through May 30. Fleet Week has been sponsored by New York City since 1984 in celebration of the United State’s sea service. The annual event also provides an opportunity for citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors, Marines, as well as witness first hand the latest capabilities of today’s Navy and Marine Corps. Fleet week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships.
